Crying Tiger Sauce

A few years ago I was in the Thai border town of Nong Khai which faces the capital city of Laos, Vientiane, just across the Mekong River, it was in a tiny but very popular restaurant there where I first tasted this version of Crying Tiger sauce. I've encountered many different versions of this sauce over the years, some good, some not so good. In its simplest form this sauce is just a basic น้ำจิ้ม "Nahm Jim" or dipping sauce. The Lao owner & chef was kind enough to share her recipe with me, thicker and smokier than other sauces of this type I had come across before, it became one of my favourites, hope you like it! A word of caution, this is one hot sauce! This sauce also makes it easy to prepare an authentic Laab Gai or Thai Chicken Salad, a classic Thai dish that is otherwise quite difficult to obtain the ingredients for to make correctly.

Amazing sauce

Marinated some chicken wings with this sauce overnight. Cooked in the oven, turning a couple of times. Absolutely delicious! Have tried some of the other pastes and they are all excellent. Used the recommended coconut milk with the curries and won't go back to previous brand. So grateful for the tip about where to find it in Sainsburys! We seem to be living on Thai food at the moment but no complaints here! I will be buying more and definitely more Crying Tiger for the best wings! Thank you!

Great way to have steak!

Tried this marinade and dip for the first time and have to say the the flavour went so well with the beef. Its not ferociously hot but has a nice heat and makes a nice change from the usual steak and chips. I'll definitely be having this again

Crying Tiger Sauce

Wow! Having experienced some of the best laab in Thailand and Laos I've struggled to find similar apart from recreating by trial and error through various recipes.

This however is authentic, delicious and super easy to make! Great level of spicy too!!

Crying Tiger

I used this sauce to marinate sliced steak then baked it in a pasty/pie for a charity fundraising. It's gone down very well. I didn't find it as hot as I was expecting so don't let that put you off trying it. It is spicy hot but so tasty. I've already been told you order more and get baking again. The photo was a fun way to encourage donations to the charity. Fantastic stuff!!

Green Curry Paste

I have purchased various sauces (Green, Red , Masaman & Crying Tiger). So far I have only tried the Green Curry paste but it was amazing and I cannot wait to try the others. Fresh and authentic flavors. Delicious!
